Review of Oona Out of Order

OONA OUT OF ORDER BY MARGARITA MONTIMORE

Okay, firstly I LOVED THIS BOOK. I thought it fun and different and just a great idea. It was really a great and new way of storytelling. For someone who doesn't generally like books with a sense of magic, this was such a good taster! And now I feel like I can actually make it through a book with more "magic" elements. This was really an easy read and the fact that each section she jumps to a new time it'll be hard for you to put down because you'll have to know where she ends up!

You'll meet Oona a 19-year-old girl who is about to learn that her life will happen very differently than other people. She is a fun, relatable character and she will have you laughing out loud. This book is about mistakes and being okay with who you in the moment rather than worrying about who you'll be or who you were. which is a really special take away. It's about not wanting to go back and not changing the past but going with what life throws your way. For someone like me, who has dealt with anxiety for most of her life. Learning to be okay with the present moment and making the best out of who you are now and what you can actually control, that really hits home for me. There is a line in the book that I loved and really thought it captured the essence of the book.
"But there was a freedom in making mistakes, feeling broken, falling into the void, and then climbing out. A freedom in letting go, setting aside, moving on." Page 263

Some questions to think about while you're reading with your book club or by yourself!

  1. At the beginning of the novel, Oona has a huge decision to make, which option would you go with? And after going through everything Oona went through would you make the same choice?
  2. Oona tries to help herself through this journey do you think this helps or hinders her from enjoying the time she has? Would you do it differently?
  3. Oona doesn't seem to learn from her past mistakes/choices when it comes to her reaction to the time jumps, do you think you would react any different?
  4. Is Oona an optimist, pessimist, or realist? Why?

Thank you for taking the time to look at my review! I hope to hear how you enjoyed this!
