Review of Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

"They both had their twisted compulsions, different corners of the same hell." p 175

Oh, my word! This book, this god damn book! It was so beautiful and funny and ugh it was everything! It's going down as one of my favorites of this year. Williams weaves such a beautiful story from start to finish, when I tell you that you will be consuming this book in a day, I'm not lying. I want more than just seven days with these characters! Let me try to get some specifics for you. This book is about pain and the pain we carry and who was willing to let in on that pain. It's about those connections we make fleeting or permanent and how we keep those close for years. It's about being open to love even when you feel broken, unloveable, or alone. I wish I could describe every theme Williams wrote about in this novel. Read this book right now! Yes, that's an order!

Seven Days in June follows the story of Eva, an erotic fantasy romance author who is plagued with an invisible illness. She tries each day to get through it and be there for her daughter the way her mother never was but when an old flame comes back into her life a wave of emotions, memories, and pain floods her. Shane an accomplished writer still remembers the seven days he spent with Eva during their senior year of high school. The lasting connection they made. he knows he's been writing for her the same way she's been writing for him. As the two reconnect over the next seven days, 15 years later, they must reopen themselves and the wounds that never did heal properly. Between the banter between Shane and Eva and the absolutely awesome Audre, so amazing! This novel will have you laughing out loud and holding back tears.

Stand out quote:

"I stayed alive for you. But you killed me, anyways." p218

Some questions to ponder:

  1. Why were those seven days so powerful for both Shane and Eva?
  2. If Shane and Eva never split up all those years ago, do you think they would have made it? Lasted?
  3. Does Lizette see herself as a good mother?
  4. Would you read Cursed?
  5. What were your thoughts on the ending?

Thanks for stopping by!
